Founded in 1886, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital is a 648‑bed nonprofit Catholic hospital that serves as the primary regional referral center in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. Located in Spokane’s Medical District, it offers a wide range of advanced services, including adult and pediatric Level II trauma care, a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, comprehensive organ transplant programs (heart, lung, kidney, pancreas), a regional cancer center, neurosciences, cardiovascular care, orthopedics, women’s health, and robotic/minimally invasive surgery.

The campus includes a children’s hospital with pediatric specialties like congenital heart, oncology, intensive care, and developmental services. It also hosts the Inland Northwest’s only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center and the highest level NICU in the region. Additional key resources include a heart and vascular institute, cancer treatment center, neuroscience institute, orthopedics & sports medicine, emergency & trauma services, pharmacotherapy, special pathogens unit, and rehabilitation support through its affiliated Providence St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Academic & Teaching Mission

As a teaching hospital, Sacred Heart is affiliated with Washington State University and the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. It hosts ACGME‑accredited residency programs across internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and more, supporting roughly 70–80 interns and residents, alongside a medical staff of over 800 physicians and a workforce of more than 4,000.
